Lahore’s shrine bombed – outrageous, barbaric and unacceptable

Raza Rumi

As if the recent acts of violence and an atmosphere of fear was not enough, the butchers have attacked Lahore’s oldest and grandest shrine – also known as Data Saheb. Thursday night is the time when thousands visit this shrine to pray and offer their respects to Hazrat Usman Hajwery, a Sufi who has been known as the protector of the city and the generous guide who is believed to have blessed countless generations.

This is a barbaric attack and should serve as a wake up call. Data Saheb’s shrine is not just another crowded place – it represents a millenia of tolerant Sufi Islam which is directly under attack by the puritans.Last year, there were threats and the government had closed the place for a day or two. This time the worst of nightmares has come true.

How long will we be mere spectators and see our great city blown to bits – culturally and physically. This is time for hard, concrete action and a major crackdown on all terrorist outfits that are operating in the country especially the Punjab wit impunity.

How long shall we remain in a state of denial – as if there is no problem within Pakistan and all acts of terror are perpeterated by the Indians, Jews and the Americans.

Here’s the latest report:

LAHORE: At least 18 people were killed when three suicide blasts struck Data Darbar in Lahore on Thursday.

According to police officials, the death toll was still unconfirmed, however, authorities stated that more than 100 people were injured.

The Data Darbar shrine is situated in the center of the city and according to police reports, a large number of people were present in the vicinity during the blasts.

Most of the injured were shifted to Mayo Hospital, where an emergency has been declared. Local televisions reported that some of the victims had also been taken to Services Hospital and Mehran Hospital.

Thursday is a popular day at the shrine where crowds gather at night. Police officials said that the large number of people could have been the reason why the bombers managed to get through, despite the heightened security.

As you sow, so shall you reap. Pakistanis who cheer on freedom fighters act of violence in the cause for a Muslim Kashmir or Afghanistan now need to see that these barbarians have no religion except violence, which is why they bomb mosques and shrines. My condolences to the victims family. May the Supreme God comfort you.

My great sorrow, and profoundest sympathies. An act of blasphemy from a current of darkness. May justice, divine and human, bring this current swiftly to its knees.

Extremely sad times. This is first ever incident of violence at Data Sahab in almost 1000 years. Data Sahab won’t be same again.

Extremist lobbies once created purposely to pursue state interests are now going against the state; all of us must realize that instead of forcing our views on others, we must start creating harmony among different sects and religions.

The attacks by militants against their fellow followers of Islam is once again sign of the times. These fundamentalists are doing nothing but harm to their own movement and bring about their own destruction by killing their own fellow believers for not being violent or oppressive enough. Defiling such an important and beautiful place of worship by bringing death and destruction within the walls of such a shrine which is so significant to the history of all Islam is a great offense which can never be justified. I am sorry for loss.

So called Puritans in Islam are in the process of destroying Islamic Societies. These are individuals with serious psychological problems who are manipulated by Psychopaths hiding behind the veil of religion. They should be brought to Justice as soon as possible before it is too late.

I’m very sorry for your loss — I find it interesting as a Christian that your brethen and fellow Moslems will continue to kill like members of your religion. That being said; what is the mind set of someone that (1) will kill for religion, (2) kill a like group, with slightly different ideas, (3) kill because they feel they are the only “correct” group within your religion. I do not understand how this can happen — again I am sorry for you loss (and I have visited Lahore and found it one of the most beautiful areas in Pakistan).

My heart breaks for you and your families Raza. There is something terribly wrong with Islam as is with Christianity. It is not your fault that you were born into a faith system that condones violence to justify its existance. Every time someone kills another human in the name of “Islam” only reinforces the truth that Mohamahad is nothing but a FALSE prophet just like Jesus

This is a very sad event, especially to the tolerant Sufi faith. I can not understand the motivation in acts of senseless violence like this by one human being to another. There is some point that all religious and ethnic differences stop and we are just human beings , we can share this world this space together. Peace to all.

Hey Enoch, in spite of your ostensibly kind words, it is exactly this kind of attitude, of calling other religions or sects “false,” that these militants are trying to spread. Ahmadis ring a bell? Please re-think your comments.

    Dear stupid enoch
You are obviously a zionest based on your comments. Muslims are proud people that believe in the teachings of all the prophets and do not mock the religion of others. What i happening now with all these murdering of fellow muslims has been phrohesised by our beloved prophet centuries ago and are now masquerading in the names of wahabi, taliban, salafi, tabligi and they and their leaders are confused in the understanding of islam and whoever does not agree with their way of thinking risk getting killed. These are the followers of Muhammad ibn al wahab and saud
and ismail dehlvi and muhammad elias and his teachers ali thanvi and rashid gangohi and others. When the west could not conquer the Islamic empire (which included jews and christians) after trying for centuries they endorsed wahabi Islam (puritanical Islam) as the official Islam which they prefered due to its militancy of killing hundreds and thousands of muslims that did not agree with their version of Islam. Mr Enoch muslims do not hate jews, but we detest zionists that is also responsible for undermining raping and killing our fellow muslims in the M.E. Like these same christians whose phrophet you are insulting in your comment is now trying to undo the seeds of hatred they started in Iraq. Afghanistan and now pakistan. They are also hoping to start a new war in Iran with the intention of resurrecting their ailing economies. O Muslims. start seeing the enemies of Islam for who they really are, especially those from within our own ranks and stop being misled. Refrain from being ignorent and learn your deen from the sufis as they are the ones that has preserved your deen over the centuries. Remember Wahabis and their followers are the true munafiqs and should be exposed for what they are

    Dear Raza,
I agree with you. While I agree that there needs to be a major crackdown, I do not think that is going to happen. And reason is that Pakistani Military and ISI has been marinated in Wahabi ideology. I think we the real muslims have to stand up and confront it at all levels using the priciples that our Prophet (pbuh) used.

Please start calling these terrorists ONLY terrorists, and not islamic terrorists. People on the fundamental side of extremism and violent Islam calling out that they protect islam by being jihadies, i wonder when will we declare them as infidels. terrorists have no religion, but of what they sort out from their interpretation of whatever divine book they choose to disgrace through their own mis interpretation of the divine words. TTP being one of them along with the afghan taliban. they are a disgrace to their cause and to the nation they belong to. I would urge you all to start stating them as just terrorist rather then islamic terrorist or islamic extremist. it gives a bad name to our sacred religion. please call them terrorists, because thats all what they are and nothing more.

  • kenan

another thing, the suicide bomber is a person who has been brainwashed since his childhood. That is all what he has been taught from the very early years of his life. the promise of paradise with 70 virgins waiting for him after he shreds himself to pieces and if lucky will take a few with him on his one click of the trigger. im sorry for these kids. after all most suicidal’s are mostly below the age of 22. they are vulnerable and easy to manipulate. they have seen nothing else but this promise of virgins waitig for them after causing the damage that they are brought up to do from start. poor fellow falling in the hands of such devils. an older person would reason out with the ways these terrorists teach. thats why the ones manipulating them would never do such an act themselves and have their dispensable people as human weapons blow themselves up before they get the idea of reasoning out with their desired intentions mostly at the early age of below 22.

My blog has a lot of unique content I’ve either created myself or outsourced but it seems a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet without my authorization.
