Incomplete BRT Project Raises Question Mark On PTI’s Performance in KP

TransPeshawar or Bus Rapid Transit is a mega-development project initiated by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government. It is still under construction. The project will be completed in two phases: the first phase of the system will encompass an east-west corridor to be served by 31 stations with an initial 255 buses, at a cost of ₨68.9 billion. Most of the fund for the project is provided by the Asian Development Project (ADB).

The project mirrors the metro projects initiated by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government in Punjab. However, there are accusations of corruption against the KP government. Many parties have accused the government of corruption. Many have blamed this project for turning the traffic of Peshawar into a mess.

Time and again political parties, traders and civil society have warned the government of protest in case the project is not completed on time as it has turned the traffic of the city into a mess.
